Welcome to the 2026 NSDTRC (USA) National Specialty

ROCK THE DOCK!

This will be a “FUNdraising” (non-titling) event for the Specialty so come out and have loads of FUN with your dogs! This event will be taking us back to where the current sport began. We will be jumping off of a dock into a pond, not a pool. So there will be some necessary changes from using a pool with a ramp. Since there will be another event on the same day, we will run this as an “OPEN” event. This will allow teams to come to the dock when they are able between 10:00am and 3:00pm. *Practice jumps will be one hour before competition from 9:00-10:00am.

The dock diving pond at YDS has a 48’ long dock for the dogs, with a 30’ Ruler Banner from the edge of the dock out into the water in order to judge jumps/swims. We’re offering TWO games at the Rock The Dock! event.  The first game is ‘Rockin’ Jumpers’, a distance challenge to show how far your dog can jump through the air.  The second is ‘Rockin’ Swimmers’, a timed challenge to show how fast your dog can swim through the water. Both games will be judged, with 1st-3rd placements awarded.

NOTE: When the team steps onto the dock the judge will ask them if this is a JUDGED JUMP; a JUDGED SWIM, or a PRACTICE. Explanations below…

ROCKIN’ JUMPERS – judged: Entry fee $25

Each handler/dog team will have two (2) judged jumps on the dock per $25 entry fee. The judge will tell the handler “go when ready” and the team will take their first judged jump. The handler can toss any toy they want, a ball, bumper, frisbee, wubba, etc. into the pond for the dog. The dog does not have to catch the toy. Next is where the major change mentioned takes place. Since there is no ramp back up onto the dock, the dog will have to retrieve the toy and exit the pond via the shore. Because of this, the handler may have to exit the dock to call the dog back up onto the dock for the second jump. Your dog will need to have a solid recall since they won’t be contained in a pool area. Each team will have a maximum of four (4) minutes to complete their two jumps. After the second jump the handler will secure their dog ASAP and the next team in line will go onto the dock. The longest of the two judged jumps will be the dog’s official distance.

ROCKIN’ SWIMMERS – judged: Entry fee $25

Each handler/dog team will have two (2) judged chances on the dock for the dog to swim as fast as it can. The handler will hold the dog near the front of the dock. When ready, the handler will toss the toy out into the pond past the 30’ mark. NOTE: the handler will have the option of asking an event volunteer to toss the toy for them. The judge will wait to make sure the toy is placed properly then tell the handler to “go when ready”. The handler will immediately place the dog at the front edge of the dock. Once in place the handler will let the dog go, no pushing. When the dog leaves the dock the judge will start a stop watch, and the time stops when the dog’s nose crosses the 25’ mark. Since there is no ramp back up onto the dock, the dog will have to retrieve the toy and exit the pond via the shore. Because of this, the handler may have to exit the dock to call the dog back up onto the dock for the second jump. Your dog will need to have a solid recall since they won’t be contained in a pool area. Each team will have a maximum of four (4) minutes to complete their two swims. After the second swim the handler will secure their dog ASAP and the next team in line will go onto the dock. The fastest of the two swims will be the dog’s official time.

*PRACTICE JUMP: Entry fee $5

Since it’s time consuming to wait for the dog to exit the pond and come back to the dock it isn’t feasible to do a practice jump as part of the judged jumps/swims. So we will have an hour before the official start time for teams to practice (9:00-10:00am). Conflicts will be accommodated. The team will have one (1) practice jump per $5 entry.

Time permitting, when all entries have finished, additional Practice or judged Jumps/Swims may be purchased at the dock.
